Early morning surprise

Post by Mike P »

Always amazes me how quickly the flowers on this plant appear and open. And then fade.

The growth of flower heads expends energy and loses a great deal of water, so therefore, the plant has to maximise it's opportunity to pollinate and be pollinated. Open once the pollinators are in range and close promptly before the sun is high in the sky.
But who could not agree .... amazing.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Growing a mixed collection of cacti & other succulents; mainly smaller species with a current emphasis on lithops & conophytum.
