arrojadoa confirmation plz

Post by Tina »

Hi all,
I got this arrojadoa several years ago at ELK, its grown well and flowers often now.
My Q is it arrojadoa rhodantha, a friend had similar and had it labelled arrojadoa reflexum,
I love the flowers they are like pink n black sweeties just a shame they don't last longer.

Pretty impressive Tina but I'm afraid I can't help with the name.

Its one of those 'happy plants', it likes where its growing now and seems to be thriving , you have to move em around sometimes- it wanted more direct sun.
Its a bit generous with its spines so doesn't go to any shows or events

Hi Tina, I would say that is A.rhodantha looking at the stems, the flowers match as well but a few species have that colour of flower.
And A.reflexum has now been reclassified to Arrojadoa rhodantha ssp. reflexa so not a lot of difference either way.
hope this helps.

Hi
and thank you all for the replies so its rhodantha ssp rhodantha then, love your plant Mike it has more flowers than mine, is it an age thing as yours is an older plant.
Do all arrojadoa look very similar or is there a nice black spined form ?

I am not aware of a black spine form but there are a few hybrids so may be there is.

Mine is pretty old and treated with benign neglect. Not repotted for at least 10 years.

They seem to have 2 flowering spells and this is the second. A. Heimenii is also flowering again.
