Problem with Pachypodium geayi

Post by Ospreywatcher »

I'm looking for some help re my Pachypodium geayi. I've had it for a couple of years and it has grown steadily. However this summer when the leaves started growing again they are curled and withered looking and have brown tips. Also the new leaves are very few in number. The rest of the stem still seems healthy enough. I repotted it in the spring into the same type of compost as before with the addition of pumice. I was giving it a good watering a couple of times a week during the hot weather but have now reduced to once a week. Sorry I have not been able to add a photo yet but will do so shortly. Any advice would be appreciated.
Into all sorts of exotic plants but with only having a conservatory I prefer to buy small young plants and miniature cacti.

I have the same on one of my plants, i have 5 second year plants growing side by side 1 has curly leaves
but the others are normal, they all came from the same batch of seed so i am assuming the one plant is
alright but with curly leaves i water them every 2 weeks, the growth on the curly one is slower than the rest
i suppose some plants are not perfect.

I had a similar problem last year with P. (geayi v) mikea. For ages the new growth was very curly and worrying - although the leaf tips did not brown and I didn't change watering regime as there seemed nothing to explain this.

A year later the curly leaves have dropped and this year's growth is normal and healthy, if that is any consolation.

I haven't noticed any insect activity on this plant which is in very close proximity to other Pachypodiums along with other caudiciforms but will certainly look out for that possibility.

This is my plant after it shed the leaves which were like yours. I would not worry about it.
