Re: Winter is coming
I'm currently trying that with some Pachypodiums grown in Reunion (near Madagascar, but part of France, so legit). They are just coming into leaf now. I'm not sure whether to try to keep them warm and growing through their first winter here, or quite what...

Re: Winter is coming
Tylecodon singularis waking up, and not a single loss from last year.
A long way to go to get to full size.

Re: Winter is coming
Seems very early. Some of my Tylecodons are still in flower, and they don't usually wake up for at least another month...

Re: Winter is coming
I have imported plants legally in the past. In my experience they have one confused season where they don't really know what to do and then are pretty much sorted out the next year.☺

Re: Winter is coming
Here's my dioscorea elephantipes, she has 3 vines this year and flowers but the males flowers are still underdeveloped. I make the vines stay close to the plant non of this free running its just too messy but miss a day or two and the have run riot.
I'll have to hope its a female so i get seed I do have some hybrid dioscorea seedlings of dioscorea elephantipes X sylvatica so it is possible, they are still small.
Also for the first time I have flowers on my dioscorea sylvatica, this is a difficult dioscorea for me as the top seems to rot off and then the new vine grows from inside the soil, maybe needs to winter in the hot greenhouse.I'll have to hope its a female so i get seed I do have some hybrid dioscorea seedlings of dioscorea elephantipes X sylvatica so it is possible, they are still small.

Re: Winter is coming
Mine still hasn't sent out a vine, just wondering if I should keep it bone dry or maybe water just enough to moisten the top of the compost slightly. I once had a Sinningia which completely dried out and died and I don't want the same thing to happen with the elephantipes.
Into all sorts of exotic plants but with only having a conservatory I prefer to buy small young plants and miniature cacti.

Re: Winter is coming
Mine were in the garden the other month with all the rain I had to drag them in as the caudexes went so dark n soggy looking but they look really happy now.
How long have you had your plant if its few years not a new addition or repot I'd go for a good water and then wait

Re: Winter is coming
I've had it for 7 years and it has grown steadily. Two years ago I made the mistake of giving too much water during the dormant season and when I lifted it all the roots had rotted. After repotting it, too my amazement a new vine started to grow as normal at the start of August last year.. I repotted it again this Spring as I wanted to check the base and was pleased to see a new root had grown. I decided to plant it deeper in the pot but so far this year there has been no new vine.

Re: Winter is coming
Mine has had various growing points over the years. So this year it's come out at the side of the pot!?
