Is this mealy bug eggs

Post by Eric Williams »

Hi, my brother bought this plant with others from a reputable source, Three days later he went for a short holiday of for four days, and returned to this on a gymno. Are these mealy bug

eggs, and if so how could this happen in such a short amount of time. Cheers

It looks scorched. Don't see any sign of mealies, but photo is a little small to be 100% sure.

Thanks Ian,,I have made further enquiries and the whole plant plus roots were affected. He said ( as a newbie) it looks more like a fungus. Could it be root mealy ? Cheers

To find out if it is mealy bug 'nest' rub some between your fingers and at will contain a pink liquid. (perhaps not for the squeamish)

Looks dead and going mouldy, I thought scorch at first but it would be on prominent part of the rib not the inner recess

Like Tina says it looks mouldy. Nothing for it but to bin it a get another one.

If there were that many mealybug eggs on it the plant would be dead already.

Thanks for all the replies. I think Tina was correct re rot. No mealies were found at all when plant was de potted. My brother has been given appropriate information on culture etc lol. Cheers
