Can't help at all with the ID, but I'm just astounded at how the top section looks so very different to the rest!! I'll be interested to know what it is too!

Tending more towards cacti , particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

An etiolated Parodia? That top 10cm or so looks like it would make a nice globular
If it is supposed to be that shape then I would guess Echinopsis, about which I know nothing.
No flowers?

Ian's suggestion of a Parodia sent me off to my books. I don't suppose Parodia columnaris is an option???

Hi Martin,
I don't really have a clue but it is actually a rooted offset, when I repotted it it was clearly bent at the base as an offset usually is. I will just have to wait and see what happens. I am pretty sure it is a columnar species but what I don't know.

If it's from an aoffset that makes the Parodia columnaris theory rather less likely, as apparently they don't do that!
