Hi everyone, i`m confused about one of my many plants.
It is a Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, and has 2 or 3 pink buds emerging from the top of the plant, but also emerging from the top is a green shape, i can only describe as another cactus emerging. Or it looks like a smaller one has been grafted on top.
My question is, is it normal for them too divide from the top, or do they divide at all, and do i just have a very weird plant?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, mabe it's the grafting stock that just grown trough the gymno. This things happen, but you have a rare plant. It's allways god to look on it from the bright side.

Re: Strange Gymnocalycium?
Hi, my Gymnocalycium is`nt grafted. It`s a single plant growing in cactus soil, so it can`t be that. Thanks anyway.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

Re: Strange Gymnocalycium?
Hi Lewis, it sounds like the growing point of the main plant has been damaged (hard to say without photo) and is continuing to grow by producing a little plantlet on top...

Hi Lewis
I have a plant sclerocactus that came to me with a bad infestation of mealy bug & this is doing the same thing, it's not normal but does happen sometimes, although I think it's ruined this plant.
Apologies for the pants photo but I have a new camera & I'm not doing very well, as per example

If it has pink buds emerging, it is not G mihanovichii as they have yellow flowers.. maybe G stenopleurum..
