Who needs the chorophyll?

Post by Bill »

Well this Haworthia cymbiformis doesn't seem to need much, while not offsetting unlike its prolific normal form, it i was only 1/2" across when removed from the mother plant 6 months ago. Not a favourite more a curiousity.

Mainly Haworthia and Gasteria, a few other South African succulents and the odd spiky thing.

A few more.

The cymbiformis is from the same mother plant and much nicer in my opinion, although I know there are some who believe there is no such thing in variegated plants. LOL

Hi Bill

Like the plants, the gasteria's are very nice, it's always bad when I see some attractive plants as it makes me want more.
I don't know how anyone can specialise with one group of plants when there is so much variety.....

Tina

varied collection of succulents and cacti but I especially like Euphorbia's, Ariocarpus and variegated agaves.

On the first pic, the 'new leaves' coming from the centre look as though they're greener. I wonder if they'll stay green or, as the 'leaf' develops, it will reduce down to a few patches again...
As Tina says, they're all lovely plants! I know it's not yet IDed, but the bottom right Gasteria is particularly nice (imho)!!

Tending more towards cacti :D, particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

Hi Bill

The bottom right Gasteria looks a bit like one I have as G.'Silver streak' I will try to get a pic posted for you to compare. There seems to be no end of Gasteria cultivar names around.

Here's the pic. See what you think. I think I have seen similar pictures with different names attatched though.

Right names first bottom left is a minima variegated and bottom right is brachyphylla possibly a hybrid.

I know what you mean Tina, ELK was torture LOL.

If you see the plant close up Maria, it's only realy the tips and sides of the centre that are green, the bulk of the leaves are white. Yes the one on the right is one of my favourites.

Thanks for that Rob, Silver Streak does seem appropriate but although the markings are simular, the leaves on mine are blunt ended whereas yours are more pointed but then again that could be hybrid variability.
