Hello all,
it's house insurance renewal time again and the standard policies don't seem to say much or indeed anything about greenhouses and their contents. Does anyone know of any companies with explicit cover in their house policies or any who do dedicated greenhouse cover for the amateur?

Re: Greenhouse insurance
Most buildings cover will include the greenhouse structure, but not contents. Don't know if anyone will insure your plants!

Re: Greenhouse insurance
The society used to have a scheme which covered theft of plants but that folded a few years back. As noted above most household policies will cover the greenhouse itself.
I searched through brokers at renewal earlier this year but could not find any policy that covers the plants themselves. I guess with heater failure/over watering/pests and disesases etc there is just too much potential for claims!! It would also be very hard to prove a value for plants in the event of a claim.
If you do come across anything I would be very interested to know the details.

Re: Greenhouse insurance
There is some cover out there.
Hiscox, who are specialist house Insurers (bigger properties, Art etc), will cover them as part of their house Policy against fire, lightning, collision, impact, theft or vandalism up to ?500 per plant and ?5,000 in total. I have also asked the question of Norwich Union who don't know the answer and are supposed to be ringing me.I will let you know when/if I hear.
If anybody wants a quote just ask me!
