By Chilean seed, do you mean from Chile or from "The Chileans"?

Chris Davies gets them from Juan (Acosta?) in Chile. They are mostly Eriosyce, with a few Copiapoa.

David, that is the sweetest little seedling ever!

Hmm.. I have always wondered - when sowing tiny seeds, I hear that they can be mixed with fine sand to help sprinkle them far enough apart. But.. does the sand not damage the seeds?

Good idea about microwaving rainwater for seedlings - our barrel water has a nice greeny tinge, I bet it's bursting with spores of lichen and moss and whatever else grows on the roof. Leaving it indoors for some time allows little white water worms up to an inch long to appear.

Happy carrier of Forby Disorder - an obsession with Euphorbia obesa.

NB. Anyone failing to provide a sensible name for me to address them will be called, or referred to, as Fred.

Hi Julie

Yes rainwater going anywhere near small seedlings, especially if they are in bags needs to be boiled first. I must say I usually use boiled, cooled tapwater to soak my seed compost initially.

Hi David,

It is easier for me to get cuttings so I never really germinate them but I tried once using the natural method. I sowed them in a pot and left it outside, about a year later they germinated. But that was only a test.
