Hi Trevor,

I'm at home now and have just checked with Peter Bruyns in "Stapeliads of Southern Africa and Madagascar".

Peter does indeed recognise Stapelia unicornis and your plant seems to match this species. The corona with its wide flattened lobes fits beautifully, and they're certainly not right for S. gigantea nor S. hirsuta. So go for S. unicornis - I'm fairly confident with this ID.

I agree - they are amazing flowers Trevor, and I have one of these courtesy of Tina [thanks Tina]

It did nothing all summer but recently it started to make a new stem so I have given it a tiny amount of water. I hope that is OK. It is indoors and fairly warm. I need a flower that pongs and attracts flies because my Venus Flytrap needs a meal.
