Beautiful picture Fritz - a nice angle to see how the flower pushes up through the spines. It doesn't look like there was much other vegeatation around in the background. Is it really that barren? Of course I'm intrigued to know what the "throat" of the flower looked like inside!

Very nice Fritz! I love those spines!
Do you have a picture from above? Like Jez, I'd like to see what the flower looks like.

Tending more towards cacti :D, particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

This one is found in some of the most scenic parts of Utah, temperatures frequently below -10C in winter. I don't know if it occurs in the other four corners states nearby.

Yes Ian pretty much so within the Four Corners. Mostly 5000ft+ in altitude, cold, usually dry with occassional snow/rain.
