F&GP Committee

Post by Colin Walker »

Hi Folks,

At I think Chris's request, it was agreed at yesterday's F&GP committee meeting to post the minutes onto the BCSS website. Boy will these make soporific reading! But at least you've been listened too.

A reassessment of the whole way the society operates is now in motion, and we'll report on this as appropriate. It will be raised of course at the Executive meeting that runs in the morning of the AGM in April.

I raised the issue of information flow from this Forum to the F&GP. It was agreed that one of the Moderators would be the conduit and Chris has agreed to take on this role. Thanks for that Chris. We now need agree on how this will operate.

Archiving of back posts was also discussed and this too will be addressed.

So guys, rest assured that the F&GP DOES take note of this Forum.
Cheers,
Colin

Apologies for my ignorance but what exactly is the F&GP?

I didn't specifically request this but its an encouraging sign. All I suggested was that the Society used the Forum more as a means of communication with its members.

Thanks, Colin and Chris.

And thanks Victoria for asking what I was too timid to ask! :)

This is good news all round! When the appropriate time comes around, I look forward to making some constructive suggestions for an impoved BCSS organistaion.

One thing I find interesting is that the BCSS has a "Finance and General Purposes Committee". Very unusual! It suggests that the original society, when formed as the Yorkshire Cactus & Succulent Society way back in 1946, was modelled like a Trade Union. Does anybody have an insight into the original thinking?

Best wishes,

Hi Derek

That's an interesting thought but if you Google F&GPC the majority of the first five pages (I didn't look any further) are universities.

Hi Derek,
I think John Cox may be able to help. When I was looking for branch history he provided news cuttings of our branch from the very early '50's

This was the sort of thing he could dig out for us. There's a bit about Cambridge as well[attachment 2074 mail.jpg]
Ps we have still got around 30 on our list, who said the Society's dying!
