Planty places of interest near Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and central B'ham?

Post by Julie »

Next weekend I will have a little adventure West. Apart from a few trips to the NEC, the area is new to me.

Does anyone know of any gardens or nurseries/good garden centres in the area, that are easily reachable by public transport, please?

Botanic Gardens in the centre of Brum.

Vic's your man though he'll know where to go.

Thanks, Bill. Botanic gardens? Oooh! This is probably better than a nursery, as my host is not quite so into plants as me. ;)

Yes as Bill has said Julie there's the Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston, easily reached by bus from the city centre. Bus stops just outside. They have a c&s collection, it's ok but a little neglected and for some reason they keep the smaller cacti behind wire mesh I presume to stop people nicking them. The rest of the gardens are nice, giftshop and cafe etc.. Peacocks, parrots ands other birds. You could easily spend a couple of hours there.

As far as gcs are concerned there's a huge one called Melbicks on the Chester Road which isn't far from the NEC. They have c&s for sale plus the usual. There's a restaurant/cafe there for refreshments. Between the NEC and Stonebridge island.

Thanks, Bill. I'll suggest this to my host - let's see if we can queeze some planty stuff in with the art gallery before going to Wolverhampton. :)

Thanks Vic too. :)
