General shot of the terrain with a couple of clumps lurking amongst the rocks.

The area had the most beautiful wind cut sandstone rocks. David had to drag me away as I was contemplating placing one of the smaller ones in my backpack......excess baggage what excess baggage.

Thanks Benjy. It's getting late in the afternoon and we still have a long way and one more Copiapoa species to go before reaching Antofagasta. Anyway here's the view towards the sea from the end of the Botija valley. It was about this stage that I first thought we might end up having to rough it in the van for the night.

:) roughing it in that van wouldve been beneficial,
Copiapoa atacamensis, decorticans and solaris are at your fingertips here in that valley,
Its a bit of a rush from here to Antofagasta at this time of day and the solaris' condition get worse from here northwards.

Anyway, I hope you made it, and my fingers are crossed you didnt get a puncture,
looking forward to your next posts !
Cheers

I think that I may have missed Copiapoa atacamensis and or decorticans at Botija. I think some of the more active members of the party who walked a little further and spent less time photographing ahremephiana may have seen these. I'm pretty sure Willy found decorticans. I certainly wish I could have spent longer in this area.

David. Thankyou so much for sharing these pics with us. I for one am thoroughly enjoying the plants, the copiapoas are stunning as is the scenery.
