This one seemed to have broken in two as it fell.
Note the Opuntia sulphurea behind....

They are up there somewhere......
Not a very inspiring location and quite tricky to climb up.

Almost there........and a slight diversion to see a Trichocereus growing out of bare rock.

They're here..........

Well worth the wait i'm sure you agree.........
These plants seemed on the very edge of life and were desperate for a drink and yet there was a flower and a fruit. Impressive.

A whole crevice full here. Unbelievably shrunken compared to the bloated grafts we grow or even the fat little buttons on their own roots. Surely some of these are past the point of no return? Actually we did see some quite healthy looking turgid Blossfeldias later in the trip, but more of that anon.

This is what we were risking our ankles on. As usual Mike was more adventurous than me and I was glad of my zoom lens to get some shots.

Across the valley from the Blossfeldia stop were more spectacular hills. Cloud was getting very low and it seemed as though rain wasn't far away.

Re: Argentina & Chile November 2008 - Day 9 - Susques - Uquia 200km
This is the end of day 9 as our next stop was our hotel in Uquia. Mike had another bad night here as once again we were very high up, 15,100 ft according to Google and finally in the morning his altitude sickness got the better of him and he needed medical help, but he'll tell the story as we start day 10.
