Indeed, it must have been so awesome to be amid that scenery, let alone see the "real" cacti in their home.

Thanks again for taking the time to share these great pics, David.

NB. Anyone failing to provide a sensible name for me to address them will be called, or referred to, as Fred.

A few scenery shots as we travelled down the valley towards Humahuaca to pick Mike up. This was the first sign of actual rain that we had encountered, very welcome here as this was still a very dry area near where we had seen the Puna the previous day.

There further we got into the valley the more sign there was of clouds brewing over the hills.

As we approached Humahuaca the valley began to support trees and signs of agriculture, still plenty of cacti though. Trichocereus pasacana.

Meanwhile (as they used to say) I woke very early and wandered into town.

There were very few people around at this time of the day. This is a general view over the square from the vantage point of the monument

The monument to the struggle for independance - I came away with the idea that the main figure was General Belgrano but that may just have been a misunderstanding of the sign.
Nice Trichocereus pasacana used as street trees each side.

A close up of the tower to the town hall. Unfortunatly it was a 3.5 hour wait to see the town hall clock perform its mechanised display so I wandered back to the hotel. As it was I waited another three hours for the party to collect me.....
