Hi all,
In July, I had a wonderful trip in South Africa, a land of Aloe.
so I'ld like to share some interesting pictures to succulent lovers here.
After a wonderful overnight in The Palace of Sun City,
I take safari tours around NE of the South Africa.
Me with blooming Aloe marlothii in front of an entry to the game reserve.
At Sabi Sabi Game Reserve of Kuger National Park area,
I found this striking 'Impala Lily' or Adenium obesum var. multiflorum.
And sorry !!! I couldn't stand to ask a special permit for getting out of car
and taking pic with this amazing pachycaul succulent.
But you know, five minutes later, we found a pride of 7 lions, ready for hunting !!!
I had no idea, if this Dumbo eat that beautiful Adenium, but I think he shouldn't,
as 'Impala Iily' is one of a real poisonous plant.
Really cute, isn't it , I took this at Entabani Private Reserve.
My first shot of a night safari, this's a beautiful female leopard.
I took a domestic flight from Sabi Sabi back to Johanesberg and then Cape Town.
There, I visited one of the world's best, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
Inside the Botanical Society Conservatary, it's a wonderful place for us!!!
A coning Welwitschia mirabilis beside a rare caudiciform Cyphostemma uter.
One of the most interesting corner is here, Bulb...that our friend, Nick love.
A rare succulent, Aloe haemanthifolia
The best thing, overthere, you can enjoy shopping plant that you want !!!
in the plant shop of the Bot Garden.
This finbos flowering plant was showed at visitor center,
but I think, too much pic, now ?!
So, I will show a next post, some wonderful plants at the Harold Potter Nat. Bot. Gard.
All of you couldn't miss !!!

Hi Stephania,
You obviously had a wonderful trip to South Africa. The animals look nearly as interesting as the succulents!!
The Kirstenbosch shop looks excellent too - pity it's in S. Africa! What was it like as a book shop - or maybe you didn't even notice the books?

Hi Stephania,
Loooks a really nice trip. A real flavour of the place. I was interested to see the Welwitshia - but did not notice the cones. Hopefully mine are going to cone next year (at least one is showing signs of it I think - this is the dangerous time with cold months ahead). I was looking at Key for some but failed to spot them.
Best regards
Chris

Hi Stephania, Very nice set of photos, it looks as though you had a magnificent trip! I particularly like the 'Boophone haemanthoides' a lovely plant.

Colin,
Last December I was in Cape Town and spent 3 days at Kirstenbosch. The book shop there is fantastic. I must have spent a small fortune there - really went over board! Not only succulent books. There is a big range on South African flora.
My big problem was I was hugely overweight on the flight home!

Hi Colin & Aloenut,
Sure, I found a lot of interesting text book overthere,
but I spent most of my money on rock, statue and a bunch of succulents for my friend and my collection,
most were bulbs in genus Ledebouria and some intersting Sansevieria with a few Hawothia.
Encephalartos, an interesting cycad was offered in very reasonable prize, but I couldn't get, as listed in CITES appendix.

Hi Phil,
So do I, Bulb is my favourite plant too, but some can't grow here, as it's too hot.
This is another species I found in the conservetary.
But this one I found, as native plant, on a hill near The Palace Hotel in Sun City.

Hi Chris & Roy,
In fact, if I had more time, yes more money, I could go to Namibia desert,
close to South Africa, to observe that amazing Welwitschia in its habitat.

Don't Miss these great pic. of great plant
On the way to Hermanus town for whale waching,
I visited the Harold Potter National Botanical Garden. Look, what I found.
A gigantic, 500 years old Fan Aloe : Aloe plicatilis.
It's really hard to believe that hundreds of fan came from a single huge trunk.
