For the cacti to tempt Vlad, I'd go with a Thelocactus, not sure...and Mammillopsis (or Mammillaria) candida.

Not quite sure of the Thelo, but perhaps one of the conothelos ssp's

The not sure is rather sun burnt perhaps, deep colouring, but I can't place it without locality data. The placement of the areoles on the tubercles suggests Cory or Thelo rather than Mamm as I first thought. But after that....

But I think the last is right, there is a form from Guanajuata, butin general habitats are in NL and SLP.

Could you give location data please, as that might help since habitat plants are rather different in appearance, I've found, from what's in our greenhouses.

I agree the last one is candida, Mammillaria it is, and a good one.

And the above ones - more look like other mamms to me, some of those very look-alike sorts I alvays have trouble to ID. But I sure can be wrong - and they could be small thelos?

I'd go with Chris with Thelocactus for the 2nd, the tubercle shape is all wrong for a Mamm.

I'd hazard a guess at Coryphantha for the 1st one, a photo from above would be ideal to see if there is the extended groove along the tubercle from the aerole.

Chris, these pics were taken on the same hillside, which was about 10km west of the town of Doctor Arroyo in Nuevo Leon which is,itself, just to the west side of the mountain that seperates it from Tamaulipas.

A travelogue of cacti wouldn't read so well. 'And here were are, stopping to look at some cacti. A little further along we saw some more, er, cacti. And then, round on the next hillside, there was another cactus or ten' ... not my strong point... I'll stick to the woody lilies, I think. Same hillside again:

I don't know how to post multiple pictures, so will do another 4 posts with one image per post. These were all along a hillside not so far from the first one. Same road, but maybe 10km north from Doctor Arroyo, so still the southern bit of Nuevo Leon.

Firstly the general habitat - Dasylirion miquihuanensis and Yuca carnerosona are the big plants here.
