Lastly not a succulent but Titan arum or the corpse flower (smells) which we photographed at 12pm, at 3pm it opened so we missed it by 3 hours unfortunately - see kew gardens website

Interesting stuff - freaky Melo and that Arum would be something to see. It's a bit hard to tell from the pic, but how big is the arum/pot ?

Here's one of me standing by it reading the pamphlet about it, so the flower without the pot is over 6 feet.

Wow , Lovely pics.
The Arum picture is very deceiving, it's enormouse!!.

I like the Euphorbia & would love a piece of that kleinia, wot lovely markings, it reminds me of my senecio deflersii but with scribble on

Hi Andrew,

Excellent pics. Glad Harrow branch had a good trip.

The plant could well be what I showed back in early April just starting to flower. If so, then it's Aeonium undulatum.
Cheers,
Colin

Great photos! Sounds like it was a great day out.

Do I spot Apicra in that second pic?

Wow.. what a lot of cacti.. a sea of them! I'd spend all day looking at them. There are some really enormous ones.

That Kleinia is really cool - it's taken the eyeliner pencil and drawn itself some spikes, to fit in with the neighbours.

Andrew, maybe it's a good thing that you were not there when the huge smelly flower opened. ;)
Happy carrier of Forby Disorder - an obsession with Euphorbia obesa.

NB. Anyone failing to provide a sensible name for me to address them will be called, or referred to, as Fred.

Kleinias, aka Senecios :D

Post by Lindsey »

As I understand it, these Kleinias are now lumped into Senecio, but maybe not at Kew??? So this could be called Senecio pendulus. I don't grow this one, but I do have Senecio hebdingii, S.mweroensis ssp saginatus (now in bud for the tirst time), S.stapeliiformis, and the well-known Senecio articulatus "Candle Plant".

Hi Andrew,

you were quick :)

I only managed to quickly look at my pics last night, too exhausted to do any more... we stayed in the gardens until nearly closing time (7PM). I was a great day out, wasn't it?
