However, Arrojadoa penicillata can also grow under the shrubs, and then it may be quite difficult to spot:

Another interesting cactus species found in this general area is Tacinga braunii, the flat-stemmed sister species of Tacinga funalis:

I do not know if the different colour forms of Tacinga braunii are due to exposure to the sun, or a characteristic of different clones of the species:
