North West Mesemb Show

Post by Peter B »

Yes, I know it's only July and we don't want to be thinking about autumn yet but if we don't start preparation of plants for the show now it may be too late.

The 4th North West Mesemb Show (the resurrection of the Mesemb Show put on by Mid Cheshire Branch before their sad demise) is scheduled for Saturday 9th October 2010 at:
St Thomas More Church Hall, Kirkway, Alkrington, Middleton, Manchester M24 1PP < 1 mile from J20 of M60.
Doors open at 9am to those wishing to stage their exhibits, 10.30am to the visiting public.
Entrance fee is £3 including entry to the talk.
Refreshments, light or substantial, both hot and cold, are on sale till 1.45pm.
Tea and coffee is available all day except during the afternoon talk (from 2 - 3.30pm).
Plant sales by Gordon Foster and many members, pots and sundries by Philip Barker.
Talk by Eddy Harris - Three Men and a Condor part 3.
Show finishes at 4pm.
Schedules and maps are available from me - just ask and you will receive.

This is an excellent show and considering all the talk we get about mesembs on the Forum it would be marvellous to see more Forumites at the event. I have mailed all last year's entrants and secretaries of Branches over quite a wide radius will be receiving copies of maps and schedules during this week.

We look forward to your participation in whatever form you prefer; we can always accept more entrants and it is good to have a full hall of visitors.

GUIDELINES

Our intention is to continue this popular show that Mid Cheshire Branch ran successfully for many years. It brought great delight to many people and we wish to continue that pleasure. We have added class 36 which is designated for unnamed plants, or plants whose identity you doubt; we hope there will be sufficient “experts” gathered to name or confirm names of plants in this section.

1. All entries of exhibits must be made on the official entry form which signifies acceptance of these guidelines and must reach the Show Secretary no later than Thursday 7th October 2010.

2. All entries must be staged by 11.00am (event judging time) on Saturday 9th October 2010, exhibits must be placed in accordance with the Show Manager’s instructions. Exhibitors will be given cards to identify the exhibits/exhibitors which are to be placed under the pots.

3. While every precaution will be taken, the event organisers will accept no liability for loss, theft or damage to plants or other property brought to the show.

4. There is no limit to the number of exhibits but only plants belonging to the Mesembryanthemaceae family are to be exhibited.

5. Plant Sales: There will be a £3.00 charge for sales. Sellers will be provided with a table and pitch on a grassy plot (inside if wet).

JUDGING: All except class 36 will be judged in accordance with the “BCSS Handbook of Shows, 9th Edition” by Eddy Harris, who requests that you keep clear of the area where judging is in progress.

We're nearly there now. Entries are coming in. It would be wonderful to see new faces both on the show tables and visiting. Give it a serious thought; then come on in!
