Sale of Gordon Yates collection - Bradford - 16th October

Post by dalesmatt »

Dear BCSS Members;

Some of you will have heard of the passing of Bradford Branch member and local resident Gordon Yates, who had been interested in Cacti and Succulents since the 1960's. He was a keen collector of Lithops, Rebutia, Aylostera, Mammillaria and Gymnocalycium, which he raised from seed in spare time away from his master carpentery buisness.

He became interested in the plants when one of the very first Bradford Branch members after WW2 Mr A. Baynes showed him around his own collection, which led to a lifelong interest.

Gordon's executors have approached the Bradford Branch with a view to organising a sale and auction of the plants, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday 16th October 2011.

A list of the plants is being comiled at the moment and should be available to view by the beginning of October, along with more photographs, and further information on the venue. Please bear with us until this information is finalised when a contact email will be provided for any queries.

WOW - what a collection, and very sad at the same time of this BCSS member who clearly knew his stuff and cared a great deal about his hobby.

Having just joined the Bradford Branch just last week its a shame i never met the man, whom i could have learned from, also a shame to miss out on the auction/sale for a once in a lifetime chance i suspect to possibly own such magnificent plants

RIP pal
