SOUTH WEST CACTUS MART. JUNE 30th 2018.

Post by tonyironscacti »

The 7th Annual ' South West Cactus Mart ' is being held at the usual venue, namely...................

The Portishead Youth Centre,

1, Harbour Road, Portishead, Bristol. BS20 7DD.

This is just 1.5 miles from Junction 19 [ Gordano Services ] M5.

Admittance is free, with the venue open from 9.30- 1.30 pm.

The Snack bar will be open throughout the entire event.

Bookings are now open, although stands are mostly booked already, but last minute applications can still be entertained.

A list of those already booked are listed below, with a number increasing the tables, due to the huge success of last years event.

MARIES POTS DIRECT.......this is now an established source for buying those special pots online, so it is good to meet Marie in person at a show like this. She will bring a good selection of pots with her, but orders for later postage can be submitted on the day.

RALPH NORTHCOTT ' Cactus Shop '.........Ralph is well established here in the West Country with both Mail Order and sales at major events around the country. He always has a good selection of plants appealing to the public as well as the serious collectors. His stand will be as large as last years, so he can provide a big selection.

CLIFF MORCOM...........All the way from deep Cornwall, he is helped by his wife Debbie . The plants are always fresh to the buyers and a popular stand to visit.

TONY IRONS CACTI...............I always try to have a varied selection of home grown and imported plants available . The stand is run by Richard who is well known around the country. Lithops are a speciality so please look closely for those choice species/hybrids.

COACH HOUSE CACTI..........The second year for this newer seller in the SOUTH WEST MART. David has previous experience of selling, but was pleased to come back after last years success here.

JOHN WATMOUGH.......John is well known at these events for providing the unusual gems, so look out for his offerings this year.

DAVID NEVILLE...................Again, a well respected seller of plants, seen at most quality shows. His choice of all types of species is one not to be missed. Make a 'beeline' to his stand to grab those bargains !

WILLIAMS CACTI........Craig [ and his DAD ] come all the way from Yorkshire to provide us with top rated plants. They are heavily into Succulents, especially those hard to get Caudiciforms. Between them they can provide you with advise on how to care for these choice gems.

ALAN WEADON.........Alan is a local, but his reputation for raising those choice slow growing plants are second to none . Sclerocactus, Turbinicarpus, Pediocactus are just some of his favoured plants. Possibly the only person in the UK that you can speak to on the care of these plants and can supply them to you !

HARRY MAYS........With his years of experience Harry has a wide selection of plants and literature popular with the avid collector and all the way from Lancashire !

A really good array of sellers booked in and I expect a few late additions as well !

Mark this date in your diary so that you do not miss it.

Hope to see you all on the day !

We have an update on fresh Traders for the South West Cactus & Succulent Mart, namely..................

PAUL BOND.......................Paul always offers a good selection of the 'Weird & wonderful' plants that cannot be seen elsewhere in collections, so it is nice to have him attending with a selection of these plants for sale.

WOODSIDE CACTI.....................This will be the first time that Carlos & Terri Zeferino have joined us, so it will be good to see the wide selection of cacti & succulents and related goodies that they will have on offer .

All spare space is now taken, so with our fresh range of adverts and articles appearing in the 3 colour monthly magazines of our area, plus targeted local advertising we hope to beat the large attendance of buyers we had last year, which was a record.

See you all on the day......early !

Just 12 hours to go for our big Mart in the South West.

The biggest attendance of Traders ever booked in.......many choice, big & large plants are being loaded as I type, ready for the trip to the show.

Advertising has been in the 3 major colour magazines for the area, our banner outside the venue was in place since last weekend with other posters around the area and towns.

Instagram, Facebook pages & blogs have all been talking about the event.

So bring your wants lists and money for the doors opening at 9.30 am.

Be there or be square !

Wow, what an event !!

Plenty of Traders, plenty of buyers, plenty of people from the General Public, plenty of plants, plenty of youngsters & plenty of money changed hands.

For me it was the BEST Mart of 2018 !

Next year , make a note of June 29th, 2019 for the 8th Annual South West Cactus & Succulent Mart !

Be there or be square !!

I'd just like to add my thanks to Tony for organising the Mart. It was the first one we had attended and we were impressed by the venue, range of plants for sale and the friendly atmosphere. We added a few plants to our collection and topped up with pots from Marie.

A good day out.
