SOUTH WEST CACTUS MART. JUNE 29th 2019

Post by tonyironscacti »

The 8th Annual 'South West Cactus Mart' is being held at the usual venue, namely.....

The Portishead Youth Centre,

1, Harbour Road, Portishead, Bristol. BS20 7DD.

This is just 1.5 miles from Junction 19 [ Gordano Services ] M5.

Admittance is free with the venue open from 9.30- 1.30 pm.

The snack Bar will be open throughout the entire event.

Because of the popularity and number of people attending this event we are taking over virtually the complete ground floor for 2019 with more stands, more traders, plus we will also be featuring other associated exotic plants & sundries that are also popular with growers.

Bookings are now open, although stands are quickly being booked already, but last minute applications can still be entertained , but get in touch soon if you don't wish to miss out on this grand event.

A list of those already booked are listed below, with a number of fresh faces amongst them......................

RALPH NORTHCOTT 'Cactus Shop '.................Ralph is well established here in the West Country with both Mail Order and sales at major events around the country. He always has a good selection of plants appealing to the general public as well as the serious collectors. He has a large stand so he can offer a big selection .

CLIFF MORCOM............All the way from deep Cornwall, he is helped by his wife Debbie. The plants are always fresh to the buyers and a popular stand to visit.

TONY IRONS CACTI......I always try to have a varied selection of home grown and Imported plants available. The stand is run by my son Richard who is well known around the country. Lithops are a speciality so please look closely for those choice plants.

DAVID NEVILLE.........Again, a well respected seller of plants, seen at most top quality shows. His choice of all types of species is one not to be missed. Make a 'beeline' to his stand to grab those bargains.

COACH HOUSE CACTI..................David Ennals and his wife are returning for a 3rd visit to our event. They come from the Dorset coast and always offer something a bit different. He may even have some of his pots for sale this year.

MINTPLANTSWOTTON...............First time for this new Cotswold shop selling a wide range of Cacti, Succulents and other related exotic plants, as well as a fashionable range of ornamental pots. Come and make yourself known to Haley.

BCSS OXFORD Branch.............John Watmough will be manning the stand with his wonderful collection of cacti & succulent and there associated history !

LOOFTERRARIUMS..............From Bristol we will have Robi with her terrariums displaying all types of exotic plants for displaying in her terrariums. Give her a warm welcome for her first stand at this show.

WILLIAMS CACTI........Since we started, Craig has always attended our event and offers a wide range of arid plants, especially caudiciform succulents. If you want a rare/choice plant them this is the nursery to see !

WOODSIDE CACTI.........A great range of arid plants from this husband and wife team, plus also the biggest array of associated cacti & succulent trinkets !

LITTLEGREENBRISTOL................Meet Lauren Tobia who runs stands around the City at Markets, pop-up shops etc. As well as a member of the Bristol Branch she has in a few years established this business as one to definitely visit . Although she attends our events this is her first time to have a large stand selling ALL exotic plants.

ALAN WEADON......Alan is a local, but his reputation for raising those choice, slow growing plants are second to none . Sclerocactus, Turbinicarpus, Pediocactus are just some of his favoured plants. Possibly the only person in the U.K. that you can speak to on the care of these plants and can supply them to you !

A really good array of sellers booked in and I expect others will be added , knowing that we will have a larger area to accommodate stands this year.

Mark the date in your diaries so that you do not miss it !

Hope to see you all on the day.

Hi everyone,

As I thought we have a few more Traders to add to our list for this years event, namely............

HARRY MAYS........Harry has a long experience with arid plants and brings along a huge variety of plants to sell. He always has plenty of knowledge on every item he sells you !

C & V. Cacti ...............For the first time we welcome from West Sussex this fairly recent seller of arid plants to our event. They will be enticing you to buy one of there seedling plants on offer !

KEITHS PLANT BOOKS...............Keith sells at most important events around the country and offers a HUGE range of books, not to be easily found elsewhere.

With such a large range of Sellers on board it should be another large and busy Event..............just make sure you bring sufficient money with you !!

That's certainly recommended as the variety is tremendous. The most expensive plant I saw there last year was a Cyphostemma Uter for £370. I was tempted ...

We have another Seller for this event, namely.........................

PAUL BOND..................Living in Monmouthshire, Paul has only a short trip across the Severn Bridge to bring his plants. He always has a good variety of the unusual plants/cuttings/seedlings to offer us. Although they are mostly Cacti he does offer some choice Succulent snippets.........although he doesn't admit to growing Succulents !!

Just 6 days to go before the biggest Mart we have run opens.

Just to remind everyone attending that selling commences at 9.30 with doors closing at 1.30.

The weather looks as if it will be 'Scorchio', so why not relax afterwards around the adjacent Marina or visit the seafront with views across to Wales and the two Severn bridges with bars /restaurants at both venues !

See everyone on the day,

Tony.

Thank you to all the Traders who came from all round the country to supply some really top rate plants.

Thank you to all the collectors & all the members of the general public who kept the stands fully occupied dispensing advise and plants.

Many thanks to everyone that contacted me after the event to say how much they enjoyed themselves.

See you all in 2020 !

Tony.
