Our December AGM was really well attended. The short formal AGM was followed by a film about Prickly pears, an auction and copious amounts of food. There are often plant sales and many of us went home with plants!
Subject to weather our president, Derek Castle, will talk to us about his life in cacti at the January meeting and we will have a popcorn cactus and succulent film night in February.
The short film we saw this month is called Invaders and is produded by CareTakers. SANBI South Africa National Biodiversity Institute part support them. Films can watch it thus:

All their films are excellent and some may suit being shown at group meetings. They also have supplementary educational material.

FILM PRODUCTION
Sharing ideas and information
Everyone loves a good story, especially when it is told through the medium of film. CareTakers uses documentary film to communicate the importance of Nature to all people. It aims to inform and inspire viewers, where, why, and how we need to protect natural systems, identify pressing environmental problems, and halt the ravages to our planet, driven by eco-folly and material greed.
The films we produce are short, personal stories told by champions of biodiversity conservation and people who know the value of nature. They are aimed mainly at young viewers. CareTakers uses a range of platforms, including social networking media, to make its material available to teachers and trainers, and anyone who likes stories told by heroic people. The films reach their full potential when used in facilitated screenings.

Re: Birmingham Branch
Hi Andy,
Great to hear you had such an enjoyable AGM! They are a necessary but sometimes 'dreary' evening but sounds like yours was full of variety.
The CareTakers' films are excellent. I strongly recommend you watch the one featuring Ernst van Jaarsveld and James Deacon 'The Collectors' at a future meeting. There is a link to it on the page you cite above, but also a direct link here:

It starts in EvJ's former office in the basement of the Kirstenbosch Conservatory which I was privileged to visit just once and takes us to 'the top of the mountain'. A great story!

Re: Birmingham Branch
Thank you Tony. The Collectors is one of the films we will see at our February 2019 meeting. I wont reveal the other gems as it will spoil the surprise! Its an excellent film. Vimeo is a really useful place for finding interesting documentaries.
