Spalding Cactus Mart - Sat 27th April

Post by Stuart »

This year will be the 13th Spalding Cactus Mart, originally held in the years between National Shows during the years they were held at Spalding, they're always a good day out. It's at Holbeach which is just a few miles from Spalding.

This year the date is Saturday 27th April at the usual venue - Holbeach Community Centre, Fishpond Lane, Holbeach, Lincs P12 7DE. 10.00am to 3.00pm with plenty of free parking outside the hall. Admission at a bargain price yet again - it's free and there's all the usual refreshments - home made cakes etc!

Nurseries include,

Graham Charles, Stamford, Lincs
Cliff Thompson, Waterlooville, Hants
Tony Irons, Portishead, Somerset
Bryan & Linda Goodey, Southfield Nurseries, Bourne, Lincs
Lily Cartier & Philip Greswell, Spalding, Lincs
Ralph Northcott, Cactus Shop, Winkleigh, Devon
Carlos Zefferino, Woodside Cacti, Holbeach Drove, Lincs
Doug Sizmur, Kent Cacti, Orpington, Kent
Stuart Riley, Plantlife Nursery, Eastbourne, East Sussex
Keith Larkin, Keith's Cactus Books, Market Harborough, Leics
Dave Appleton, Desert Plants UK, Herne Bay, Kent
Richard & Wendy Edginton, Seedling Cacti, Norwich, Norfolk
David Neville, Southampton, Hants
Shaun Biggadyke, King's Lynn, Norfolk
Gordon & Joan Foster, Oak Dene Nurseries, Barnsley, South Yorkshire

This seems to include just about all the major nurseries in the UK, all in one hall for one day only.

Is this the correct postcode on your post?, doesn't show up in Google maps!

Looks like it might be PE12 7BQ

Reason: From TGR - agreed, thanks!
Joined Havering branch 2006, although have been growing on and off since the age of ten!
Have a large balanced collection of both cacti and succulents but enjoy growing cristate, monstrose and generally anything a bit weird!

Should be PE12 7DE - maybe Stuart didn't like PE at school!

You'd better get Spalding Branch to update their details on the events page Tony - it is wrong there! Just different ends of the same road anyway.

Sorry, you're quite correct, it should be PE127BQ. Nothing wrong with PE at school! I was asked to put something about the Mart on the Forum and copied the Postcode from the Spalding website. This postcode should work unless the GPS Week Number Rollover on 6th April doesn't mess things up.

Less than a week to go now! Looking forward to it as always and pleased to report that C&V Cacti from West Sussex have been added to the list of attending nurseries.

Shameless plug alert: You'll be able to see the practical outcome of all that seed-raising advice in eNews!!

Only a couple of days to do - worth making a weekend trip and visiting Southfields on the Friday, only about 10 miles from Spalding and the largest Cactus Nursery in the UK, Spalding Branch have their monthly meeting on Friday evening at 7.30pm at the Frasier Room, Surfleet, about 5 miles from Spalding. There's a talk 'What's New' by one of the nurserymen attending the Cactus Mart, I expect he might mention the new society logo and have a preview of some of the plants for sale the following day. After the Mart there's Bay Tree Nurseries just up the road, rooms still available and cheap at the Travelodge in Spalding.
