Hi,
My name is Carl and I live in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. I'm a member of a few plant based forums, mostly carnivorous plant ones. This is the first cacti and succulent one I have joined. My cacti and succulent collection is currently very small, consisting of Mammillaria microhelia, Mammillaria painteri F.monstruosus (that one wins the prize for the most weird looking plant I own!) and the uniquitous garden centre pot-o-cactus. I have an Aloe on my office window at work and a Sansevieria on my desk (does that count as a succulent?). Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I will be the owner of a Stapelia flavopurpurea. I find Stapelia fascinating but due to the smell, flavopurpurea is the only one I could consider growing.
My Mammillaria microhelia is currently in flower...

Welcome to the forum Carl!
Don't let the odour of Stapeliads discourage you, they aren't all as pungent as you might expect. I have a few different plants and haven't noticed them to have overpowering aromas. Stapelia hirsuta was the first one that I flowered and I don't find it to smell much at all. Oddly I have a Crassula 'springtime' which I find more unpleasant, it has a sickly sweet smell to it that I found much more noticeable.

Hello Carl, and welcome, from a fellow Aberdeenshire cactus & succulent nut!
We are a rare breed up here. The BCSS group is small but strong. Let me know if you want to expand your collection- I've a few Yr2 seedlings to give away.
