Hello everyone on the forum

Post by Jens »

Hello
I´m Jens from coastal northern Germany. I´m 43 years old and am living on a small island in the baltic sea. I have been growing cacti for three years now. I decided to build a greenhouse 2 years ago and gradually it has become my second living room.
I´ve been sowing increasing amounts of cacti species the last 3 seasons. My collection of cacti is mixed so there always is something in flower most of the jear.
The genus I like best is eriosyce - most of the propagaton I did within the (quite wide) range of this genus.
See you around
Jens

Hi Jens
Welcome to the forum
It looks like you have got quite a lot of seeds in the baggies on the bottom shelf
And you have got quite a few good nurseries in Germany to get your plants from

Hello! I've been following your Eriosyce posts and photos on another forum and I'm glad you've found us here - I know you've a lot to contribute. That's a great looking greenhouse in that photo - the design of some of the greenhouses I see housing collections in Germany and other parts of mainland Europe really puts the unimaginative choice we see in the UK to shame.

Thanks for the replies guys
Since our winters get quite chilly and wet around here, I thought it was the right thing to buy a better insulated greenhouse. In fact I put some bubble film wrapping in the inside during wintertime. But iann encoraged me in another forum to let the temperatures drop a little more with no harm done (to most of them) .
Regarding the seedlings I am hoping to increase the survival rate... (The biggest killer having been the neglect of seedlings in summer heat)
