Hi

Post by Ross »

Hi i'm Ross im 22 and live in Bedfordshire. I have recently inherited a collection of about 20-30 cactai and succulents although about half dont have any labels which makes researching them a bit tricky. Also it appears that I inherited a collection of Mealy bugs with my plants and although I've cleaned them all off a few times im not having much luck killing them off so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Ross,
if you can post some pictures here we will have a go at identifying them.
Re the meally bugs they are a big problem- a solution which is working for me at the moment is Ultimate Bug Killer spray (Provado) in a yellow can, which you can get from most garden centres. You have to spray again a couple of weeks later as the eggs are not killed by it.

A very warm welcome to the forum Ross.Once you have the mealy bug fairly under control, small outbreaks can be dealt with by touching a cocktail stick in methalated spirit, then on the bug.Take care not to use too much spirit as it can remove suface bloom off some plants, best to experiment on something not too precious. Cheers,Ray.
