Hello

Post by agavemad »

I am quite new to collecting succulents and as my name suggest I have gone Agave Mad.
It started with a rather sad looking agave I found hidden in the back of a garden centre, a medio picta alba.
I bought the plant just before last winter and did everything wrong, separated all the offsets, potted them in plain old compost and watered them all winter in a cold greenhouse with NO door.
I was very lucky. the three plants survived and are reproducing again. Since then I have Purchased 'lots' of agave and my husband has built me a new greenhouse, double glazed it and a heater will be installed before winter.
I have become quite addicted to the spikey monsters.
Oh and I have developed a liking for echeverias too........
Another new greenhouse is in the planning stages

Welcome to the forum Agavemad, I'm sure you will easily fill your greenhouse space with Agaves, Echeverias and probably with other things as well! Enjoy your plants.

I have picked up quite a few agaves and echeveria this year. (and the odd Howorthia)
Some from forum members who sell on ebay. I have a few of Stuarts tissue culture agaves and hybrid echeveria.

Hi you sound like someone with interests similar to mine. I love Agaves and Echeverias and have had to buy a new and larger greenhouse to accommodate them. Good luck with your new interest and I am sure you will soon get some new additions
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Thanks for the welcome Liz
I have around 130 different types of agave now and around 70 Echeverias/graptoveria
and a few other types of succulents sneaking in.
My husband built me a double skinned polycarb greenhouse that is 6x12, however its full
He is now planning stage 2 for next year a 14x30ft, even if I don't buy anymore plants the ones I have will soon outgrow their space.
