No, definitely not. Possibly rhodantha - but maybe too much wool?

Thanks for enabling this Phil, good to see the photo and I agree Rod, that it might be rhodantha.

Hi Tony - thanks for your reply and help. Really? not a M-Z? What is it then? I can understand that an MZ is usually more spherical. But I have deliberately pot-bound it to grow more vertical. And the really strange news is – as of 13/03/16 a third ring of flowers is forming – lovely or what! I have given it a small drip of water and no feed in a starved pot.

Hi nEmil,

M. zeilmanniana is a member of the Stylothelae Series and usually has 4 central spines of which one is always hooked - not your plant.

As Rod says, may well be one of the many variable clones/var./subsp. of M. rhodantha, probably your plant fits into the Heterochlorae series. Its tendency to want to lie prostrate is another clue.

Reminds me very much of my M. mollendorffiana which has about a foot of 'travel' along the bench and always flowers repeatedly throughout the season, though it is has not started flowering this early in the year. It is kept in a greenhouse at around 5deg. C minimum temperature.
Regards Keith.
