I'm Alex and I am from Austria.

I mainly have non-succulent plants but recently I've started raising some succulents from seed and this forum has been a great help to me.

It all started when I saw a picture of a Dioscorea elephantipes and immediately fell in love with it. Since I like starting things from seed I ordered seeds and planted the first batch on February 22, 2017. The second batch was sown April 16, 2017. Here they are as of today: I also ordered some Pseudolithos cubiformis, Lapidaria margarethae and Pachycormus discolor, which can be seen below. All of them are currently indoors under artificial lighting (LED or T5 respectively).
I'm glad that I was allowed to join this forum and looking forward to interesting discussions.

Welcome to the Forum Alex, it looks as though you have made a good start with your seedlings and I'm sure you will find plenty to interest you here. Enjoy your plants.

Today the container with the Pseudolithos seedlings fell out of my hands and flipped over 180° when I got too close to the small fan providing airflow and got startled. The seedlings got buried and some seemed to have pressure marks on them when I recovered them from the soil, so I don't know if they will survive this unplanned repotting.

On the plus side I can say that they did have beautiful, healthy looking roots...

Accidents happen but as long as you have repotted them all you can do is hope they survive and continue growing

Thank you, Chris! Yes, true. They didn't deflate over the course of the day, and the pressure marks didn't seem to get worse, so there's hope. And if they survive I'll be less afraid of repotting them in the future.

I thought I'd update this thread a bit to show how some of the plants are doing. The attachment didn't work, so the images are linked from my server...

Pachycormus discolor (2+ months after sowing):


Two Dioscorea elephantipes whose caudex I raised above the soil line (4.5 months after sowing):


Opuntia basilaris (1 month after sowing, only 5 of 11 germinated):


Agave albopilosa (1.5 months after sowing, 10 out of 12 germinated):

Here an update on the Pseudolithos that fell down and the Lapidaria.

The Pseudolithos did get damaged a bit, but seem to have kept growing nonetheless. (Toothpick again for size.)


And the Lapidaria are growing as well.
