Looks like a flower stalk just showing on the Aloe variegata!

Hi Sue , as Lindsey says its Aloe variegata, it used to stand upright untill it started to offset then it keeled over , someone else posted a picture of there,s doing the same so whether this is what happens i don,t know, it just sits in the greenhouse and throws some flowers out early in the year, i,m sure i read somewhere that they should be treated the opposite of cactus ie watered in the winter months and rested in the summer but like most of my plants it is kept very dry all the year round and seems to do alright.

Thanks Bruce. I keep mine on a window in the kitchen and have been watering lightly. I will keep it going! Should try and take a picture of it.

Thanks to everyone for their entries. I wish I didn't have to judge, but there has to be a winner.

Two of the plants don't take much space in the photo, but still, they are clearly the main focus of the composition along with the closer A. dichotoma and their huge sculptural existence contrasts well with the emptiness and endlessness of space. Congratulations Al, your photo is the winner.
