Most people have a Copiapoa of some description in their collection. As we know much consternation is given over to the variability of the genera. Be it habitat compared too cultivated, variants and sub-species, conflicting nomenclature, etc.
Hopefully this won't turn into too much of an ID parade but what I'd like to request is if you can send pictures of your pride and joys (and habitat) with the thinking, "Ok, its a Copiapoa, but which is it"? So plants that are not labeled or immediately apparent too what they appear or should be(!)
Here's one to get the ball rolling with that's unlabeled. Copiapoa (?)
]
This could be Attacamensis or Calderana or....

Also, include mislabelling (no swapping labels! ) This Copiapoa is labeled as Wagenecktii but looks to be very much Tenuissima
Hopefully I haven’t gone too obscure on this thread. If so, maybe it'll open up too other genera.

A week into November. Seems like time to add some photos ...
Came to me as C. montana. Maybe it even is that. This one definitely isn't C. columna-alba. I'm dubious about this as C. megarhiza.

Hi,
This is a cheat really, as I know what this is, but I thought it would be nice to add some flowers to this thread.

Mark KD, Iann, Mal -'most people have a Copiapoa in their collection' - - a little exclusive don't you think. This part of the forum is supposed to be a fun photo competition - clue in the name , we are lucky that Jim Mercer and many others share beautiful pictures, well thought out and experience shared. I suggest naming your hybrid etiolated Copiapoas should have a different thread.

After much searching I think I have found two.Mark k.D wrote:Most people have a Copiapoa of some description in their collection.
I can read the label for one plant so fairly sure it is a Copiapoa which came close to being thrown out but seems to be showing some signs of life..
The other plant is more difficult to access, I moved a few plants out of the way to get this picture but could not access the label.

This thread was possibly catering more for my own preoccupations than to the general forum populous, but thanks too everyone who contributed all the same, all great photos.
Well, I promised myself I was not going to be swayed by flowers and go for something looking gnarly and obscure. Iann’s ‘Montana’ was a nice starter with that stunning tap-root. Maybe that should have been the thread in hindsight ‘most concentrated tap-root’. Jim’s crusty looking ‘Humilus’ was of interest and not very easy on the eye.
So Agavegeoff is the winner just for so many flowers with a well detailed picture to boot. Well done Geoff.
Now for Decembers fun photo subject.
