Aberrance for it's lack of the usual flocking?
Actinomorphy for its symmetrical flowers?
Acute petals? (or are they attenuate or even acuminate?)
Anthers?
That it is experiencing its anthesis?
The areoles?

1. Aberrance for it's lack of the usual flocking? (Though I was thinking of the word altogether)
2. Anthers?
3. The areoles?
4. Apex
5. Astrophytum
6 . Angles
Actinomorphy for its symmetrical flowers?
Acute petals? (or are they attenuate or even acuminate?)
That it is experiencing its anthesis?

I've had to look half your words up on the internet Phil !

Nice to see such a wide selection of plants

While some of you have perhaps concentrated on getting as many A's as possible my botanical latin isn't good enough to find as many as Phil_SK so I cannot judge on that basis. What I was hoping for when I set the subject was to see some plants whose name did not immediately seem to fit ie whose name did not start with A.

Sheila's asymetrical Matucana interexta came very close to winning but the photograph that has won is...

dramatic pause

even longer pause

Eriosyce andreaeana by Jens who should perhaps have entered it with one of its synonyms Acanthocalycium andreaeanum
