July 2013 - Madagascan Treasures
Ernie's choice of topic for the July competition is 'Madagascan Treasures' - any succulent plant that is endemic to the island.

Re: July 2013 - Madagascan Treasures
Not sure how many plants I have from Madagascar, I know my Operculicarya decaryi comes from there but it needs to grow a few more leaves....
A few searches via google produces a few possibilities, this slow growing Euphorbia cylindrifolia ssp. tuberifera being one of them.

Re: July 2013 - Madagascan Treasures
Thought I best explain why Tony posted the new topic for me. I did not expect the picture to win however I asked Tony to post my subject for this months comp if I did win; On the morning of the 1st Elaine and I headed off in a cruise ship to Norway, reception on these ships is somewaht variable and I was not at all sure if I could post a message via Elaines I pad.
Anyway I am pleased my picture of mum won and if she is looking down on us I am sure she will be just as pleased.
Some good pictures so far, keep them coming.

A few weeks of fairly constant watering and my Opercularia decaryi has put on a lot of growth on the new stems but not much sign of anything green towards the top of the trunk.

Found another that I think is native to Madagascar...
Re: July 2013 - Madagascan Treasures
Disappointing number of entries however the standard is very good.
The winner is Dianes Euphorbia Waringae. A very good photo of a plant I like very much.

Re: July 2013 - Madagascan Treasures
Some great photos. I'm not quite sure how the judging works here, it doesn't seem to be a voting competition but if it had been the Pachypodiums would have got my votes, in particular Lithos's Pachypodium horombense.
Cheers
