Some words with your photo would be nice, telling us what it is of and describing the texture(s).

Re: May 2014 - Texture
This was taken in Tenerife, where they had been clearing out some of the invasive Opuntias. This must have been left for a long time to become a skeleton but the texture caught my eye.
The next one is Monanthes polyphylla. I have been watering it about a month or more and one day realised it was in bud. This close up is the result.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

This is Crassula tecta. It has a lovely rough epidermis, which close-up looks like this.

Re: May 2014 - Texture
Looking through my pictures I found a few more.
Aeonium glandulosum.
Agave lophantha.
Aeonium nobile after I left it out in a hailstorm, fortunately the plant is growing well and all the damaged leaves will wither away.Aeonium glandulosum.
Agave lophantha.
