Hoverfly and guelzowiana may not start with 'M', but Mammillaria is a good stand-by

Just a grab shot taken in situ but worth sharing. Here's the smaller of my two Mammillaria theresae putting on it's usual magnificent display. One of my favourite plants.

Went to the greenhouse today to see if any more buds had opened on the Mammillaria pseudoperbella (they had) and found that my Astrophytum myriostigma was also enjoying the sunshine.

Medusae starts with an 'M' so I guess this qualifies!
Astrophytum caput-medusae in flower this year.

M is for... Me! Matchat. Carrying my magnificent and monstrously heavy Aloe polyphylla as Sheffield branch annual show ended today. I do hope nobody is trying to eat as they view this. I can only apologise for my grimace, I was about to collapse . To my surprise this won best other succulent in show and best plant in show. I could have picked any number of superior plants given the choice.

Very many congratulations, Matchat. A brilliant plant you have there, I'm very jealous, as mine is minute compared with that fabulous monster.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Don't despair Liz! I achieved this from a plant 4" across and rootless in just 3 years.

This has been a well fought contest and many notable subjects have been photographed. Thanks to all who contributed. Choices are always subjective but I have based my decision on the quality of the photograph as well as the plant itself. Commendations are due to the following who made it onto my shortlist:
lzrddr for the Micranthocereus estevesii
Liz M for her Monanthes polyphylla
jfabiao for the superbly coloured Mediolobivia pectinata atrovirens
Peter Cupial-Jones for his Matucana aurantiaca
Mike T for his Sedum mocinianum
Keith H for his Mammillaria marksiana
Jim Mercer for his beautiful photograph of the Astrophytum myriostigma blooms
Sheila's lovely photos of Matucana and Mediolobivia
Matchat for his cheeky offering at the end.
The top spot goes to Chris L for his wittily alliterative title and well photographed Escobaria minima in bloom. Well done Chris and over to you to decide on the subject for the June competition.
