June 2015 Plants named after......

Post by Chris L »

Any plant that is named after someone famous in the hobby, or someone famous not even connected with plants. The more obsure the better.

For example : Lithops hallii or Haworthia cooperi - Harry Hall or Tommy Cooper.

If 'obscure' is one of confitions, then (but only to encourage others) I'd like to show 'harrisia jusbertii':
HJ.jpg
First of all, I'm pretty sure its not that plant (tho I got it under that name), and second, I'm not really sure there is some Harris or Jusbert it was (supposed to be) named after. Considering that HJ is supposed to be a cultivar, I guess it can (hardly) fit to obscure condition.

Come on folks, lets give Chris something better than this...

How about a plant named after two people? The genus Muiria is named after John Muir; not the American most people might think of, but the Scottish and then South African botanist. The species is named after his daughter Hortense who so far as I know had nothing to do with plants other than her father.
