December 2015 Photo Competition - Contrast

The subject for this month will be " Contrast " could be spine colour, leaf shape, old plant with new growth or anything else with contrast.

I know we have Christmas this month so get those photos in early.

just to give you a start,the contrast of plant and flower shape of Astrophytum myriostigma Fma. Quadricostatum.

I went for the best contrast I could find.

Aloe microstigma, great variation in colour set off by the brown spiky edges pf the leaves.

Ferocactus wislezinii broad brown spines, with green body and pale fluffy aerioles

Gymnocalycium speggazini, wonderful brown and cream spines against the green body, a winner for me

Echeveria hybrid of the E agavoides type, showing brilliant contrast of green and red, which should become allover red, once the cold weather sets in.

The first contrast is different plants all from then same packet of Mesa Gardens Echinocereus russanthus SB965 seed, despite the different flower and spine colours

I tried to find a fluffy cactus with spiky flowers, but I had to settle for a spiky plant with soft flowers :)
