February - New growth

Post by MikeT »

February used to be winter in the old days; but now, with the daffodils out in January along with the snowdrops, crocuses, aconites, primulas and cyclamen, February seems positively spring-like. So the theme for the month is 'New Growth'. Some scope there: could be a seedling, a flower bud, a new shoot, or any other new growth. Anything active in your greenhouse?

This is the plant that gave me the idea of 'new growth'. Cissus juttae is kept indoors for the winter, not one to leave in a virtually unheated greenhouse. It gets a few very light waterings through the winter, otherwise all the previous year's stems tend to dry up. It's usually one of the first plants to wake up at the start of a new growing season, with it's fresh pale green stems and leaves.

Perfect time for looking at new Lithops leaves. I'm amazed by how advanced many of mine are already this year.

More Lithops. Most of my plants are in store so I don't have much choice. Most of these Lithops are two year old plants.

The Agave looks like Bovicornuta to me - teeth curled in opposite directions like horns, hence the name.
