The topic for January is 'My Favourite Plant(s)'. I think we all have particular favourites so let's share them with each other, maybe just saying why we like them. Hopefully an easy subject for everyone.

Having just entered to world of cactophilia in July 2018, learning lots and love all 80 or so plants I’ve acquired. Fave at the moment is my little Mammillaria luethyi. So diminutive. But worries she might not make it through the winter. Also think I spotted a Brevipalpus scale bug with my digital microscope (am checking as I have defo got mites on a Gymno). So cautiously using neem oil solution spray I made up, with crossed fingers!

I have two plants to enter. I like all my plants (why else would I grow them!) but these two are special because I grew them both from seed sown in 1975.

The first is Notocactus leninghausii which I had to re-root in 2010 having cut off the bottom section due to rot. This photo of the plant in flower was taken in 2013. I lost it, alas, in 2016 after it had been in storage for 12 months while we moved house. I had placed it unpotted at the bottom of a large cardboard box and the weight of other plants on top squashed it.

The second is Trichocereus spachianus, which flowered for the first time in 2015. It hasn't flowered again since being in store in 2016 but I live in hope. This plant has also been re-rooted due to rot and is much shorter than the original. I must curb my tendency to overwater. :???:

Eric was and always will be my favourite even though he now lives with my sister. She managed to flower him as well, despite not really having much experience with cacti Ferocactus stainesii
