Jeff's Hotbox

Post by Jeff S »

This is just a two shot mini tour of my hotbox, to show how the plants are being crammed in ready for the winter.
The wood in the second pic' isn't really bent, it's my little compact camera that distorts it.
Anyway, still some more plants to go before the glass goes in.

Nice big Euphorbia bupleurifolia you've got there.

Hello Jeff
I love to see the various ideas people have to solve the problems of cultivating cacti and succulents!
Is your hotbox located inside a greenhouse? How is it heated?

Hello Jens,
Yes the hot box is in my Greenhouse, It's heated by soil warming cables connected to a rod thermostat. The thermostat is set about 10cm above the bottom, and keeps the air temp at around 60f about 15c I think, this means of course that the base is warmer.

Hello Jeff
I see, so the little hotbox also heats the surounding GH. Do you need a heating device for the GH at all?

I hope I don't lose too much heat to the main greenhouse Jens. I'll soon put more bubble plastic around the back, sides, and top, I just have glass on the front to allow some light. And yes I use an electric fan heater to keep the greenhouse at a minimum of about 5C.

Great idea Jeff! I also like how you fit more in by suspending them on wire.

(love the bipleur too) :)
Happy carrier of Forby Disorder - an obsession with Euphorbia obesa.

NB. Anyone failing to provide a sensible name for me to address them will be called, or referred to, as Fred.
