Self made green house

Post by Le Fakir »

Hello,

just to show you what has be done to avoid heating during winter time:
outside temp = -6c greenhouse temp= 0

http://public.fotki.com/El-Fakir/rocail ... ion-serre/

I use water barels + isolated concrete north facing wall + half "underground"greenhouse (60cm deep) + polycarbonate panels (16mm for the top roof and 10mm for the south) + solar pannels to electrify a car fan as air brassing and a small fan to take hot air from the top to the bottom of the greenhouse (with a 10cm pipe)...

That's quite wonderful!

I'm in the middle of making a greenhouse but mine is a bit simpler in its construction. I'm setting it into the ground a little bit, in the hope that it will save on the heating simply by having less air space. I have taken a few photos as I've gone along but I wish I'd taken more now I've looked through yours!

The most important is to have a very good insulation on the North wall and more you "burry" your greenhouse, the more you get heat from the ground.
A very old system but very efficient now with modrn technoloy is the Hypocaust system.

Very nice! Well built too.

Will you need any shadecloth in the summer?

Thank's Daryl !!!
During summer time, I don't use any shadecloth but I keep the west and est sides opened (by removing the windows on the West and leaing the doors opened (East) and I have a car cooling system fan connected to solar pannels that keeps air circulating.
Here, in my area, we have summer temps up to about +33 +37 c, with +35 +40 c inside the greenhouse (no much higher), except when I forget to open the doors after a rainstorm... :???:
I only use a permament shadecloth with Gymnocalycium. And I made the west and east sides not translucent, that way it provides someshade (morning or afternoon) to the plants that need it.

Tres bien!
Sure sounds like you have it all worked out.

Your temps are comparable to mine, but the sun's intensity is higher here.
