My greenhouse/dry house.

I am building a new hothouse. Should be done within a week or so.

I just need to manage a system to make my picks smaller so I can post it.

In my case it is more of an dry house than a hothouse.

Where I stay summer temp is around 32-35C on avg in summer with high of around 40-41C. Daylight up to 14 hours.

Winter hardly ever drop below 4-5C. I have not seen frost in my area in the last 6-7 years.

Our annual rainfall is more of a problem. In good years we receive around 700mm. My plants are kept outside so to keep them dry is harder than to keep them warm.

L Leslie grow naturally in a circle of about 250km around Pretoria where I stay. Maybe i should plant a few in the garden and see what happen?? :D

A few pick as my greenhouse was build.

Note my helper for scale

Floor done on 1 side.

The plastic is only on the top portion of the wall to keep rain out. The bottom is shadenet to allow ventilation and my wifes cats out.

Inside pick before shade net was placed.

First pick is the Lithops seedling nursery in the back, covered with an additional 40% shade net. Seedlings stay here until there first leave change.

All netting done. I used 40% shade net all over.

A very interesting set up and obviously this will be well suited to your conditions, so different from the UK. Let us know how your plants get along.

How very interesting. In UK the temperature is around zero & when warmer there will be torrents of rain. The plants have nil hope without being enclosed with glass. We dream of not having to bubble wrap the greenhouse and use heaters and fans in winter.

Good luck with your project.

Brian I thought I would learn a lot about plants here. Not only was I correct about that but I did not know how much I would learn about growing conditions in other places.
