Pterocactus nequensis

Post by Mike P »

Pterocactus nequensis. Nice to see this one even if it wasn’t quite in flower.

Great photos on both threads, I do find nequensis an unusual plant, the stems start out one shape then become rounded and global with age. I was convinced I had been sent the wrong plant at first.

That's one for my wants list! I've already got a few other species, making some nice chunky roots, but only a few seem to have tidy top growth.

I prefer the spiny form of P. neuquensis.

I've ordered some seed of Pterocactus and Austrocactus from Nobby, Shame this species wasn't available...

Hi Kees,

the plant isn't new. It has been sold for many year as Pterocactus araucanus from Neuquen. As it is different from P. araucanus my wife and I described Pterocactus neuquensis in the September KuaS 2016 together with Roberto Kiesling.

Best regards
Nobby
