I cannot remember if I posted this plant Corynopuntia moelleri NPE 5318 last year when it had 6 flowers, but here it is with one of the 7 flowers now open this year, it flowered also in the 3rd week in June last year.

That's exciting! I have the same plant coming to flower for the first time - with just two buds, though.

What is the minimum you keep it in the winter? It is one of those plants that look good year round, a firm favourite of mine.

Good to see and hear both of you are flowering C. moelleri.
I've never flowered mine - what am I doing wrong?

There's a chap who goes around giving excellent talks on these plants and how to flower them - now what is his name. Ah yes Roberts! Have you asked him about how to flower it?!

Ho! Ho! Thanks, Keith.
Yes my current wisdom for most Corynopuntia (quite the opposite for Maihueniopsis) is to start watering them in February (in UK) but I've had no luck with this one.

Christian; It does not look much different winter or summer it is not one of those Corynopuntias that throws out new segments with style or change of spine colouration , as for temps, I keep it above minus 5c, it is now in the new greenhouse where the heating comes on at 1c ( maybe 0c by the time the heating has had time to kick in ) and stays on until it is 5c.

Tony; Neglect is good for this one I only start watering Corynopuntias in mid to late march depending on the weather at the time, it is in a hanging basket and left to its own devises.

It's beginner's luck for me, Tony! I got a cutting of a different C. moelleri from Stuart Estell years back - he did say it was a nice plant, but I shouldn't expect to see flowers on it... Perhaps NPE5318 (which I received from Michael Kiessling in Germany) is just a more floriferous clone? (If you haven't got this one I can send you a cutting if you like.)

Interesting re winter temperatures, Ray. I have read that this plant should be fairly tolerant of frost, and since last summer I keep mine in a fairly exposed cold greenhouse. It has taken winter temperatures lower than -5 but looked a bit scruffy this spring, and for a while I did wonder whether it might just die. Flowers were the last thing I expected to see on it!

Haven't heard that name for a while Stuart does he still do cacti ?
I did swap a number of cuttings with him and he flowered one and I still haven't had any flowers on my plant (an Abbey brook plant)

I know he disposed of his collection a few years ago, Chris. He certainly got me into growing opuntiads...
