Re: One of those Baja Mammillarias
Very nice, Ian. Mine has had one flower, and more buds, but will be a week or two before they open. Funny how some of these will offset, while others remain solitary, mine is solitary, and quite a few years old now.

I should put it in my twins thread! This is a very old picture but you can see there is just no comparison.

Interesting Ian, M. boolii rarely offsets, while its cousin M. insularis does much more so. But plants do the most unusual things at times.

This photo taken this morning shows the contrast. Two other seedlings from the same batch are both solitary.

Definitely prefer the flowering one! I wonder if the other will flower when it gets older, or maybe just even more clumped up.

Re: One of those Baja Mammillarias
This is also the time that Cochemieas flower (if you're lucky!). My C. pondii obliges most years - it's the easiest to flower, though this plant isn't the best form, it always looks a bit scruffy. The habitat for this plant is Cedros Island, the only known habitat.
I have flowered C. poselgeri in the dim and distant past, it needs to be quite tall before it will oblige, and they all need full sun to do so. They tend to be plants that you hope you might flower in your lifetime! (Sorry - I can't call them Mammillarias, I feel they need to have their own niche!)

Re: One of those Baja Mammillarias
Interesting plants Diane, mine are quite small as yet, apart from setispina which is a big clump but never shwoing any signs of flowering. My maritima did throw a single flower last year and it was only 3" tall, but nothing this year. Something must have shocked into thinking it needed to reproduce!

Hi Ian.
Maybe you should take one of the heads off the clumper and graft it and see if it clumps and flowers!
