Hi All,
Aloe asperifolia from the extreme Namib desert. Not often seen in cultivation. I have tried it numerous times from seed but have never been able to keep it alive through winter. Aloe claviflora, a close relative does better for me.

From desert conditions but possibly not as extreme as the previous species, Aloe hereroensis.

Quite often seen in cultivation, Aloe broomii. A large part of the individual flowers are hidden by papery bracts.

Re: Medium Sized Aloes
Any tips on how to grow broomii well. Mine used to go extremely red/brown in any amount of sun and with very dry leaf tips, then last year I kept it under the bench, it looks much healthier, nice and green, better leaf tips and no etiolation although it may of had less water being kept in the ghouse.

Hi Frank,
I think my A. asperifolia has also gone to the great herbarium in the sky!

Hi Vic,
A. broomii never looked very happy with me either - always had dead leaf tips. So no, sorry, I've no advice to offer on growing it well.
